JOB SPECIFICATION:

  • ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS
    Master in Nursing or Masters in relevant field is preferred.
  • WORK EXPERIENCE
    Must have more than ten (10) years working experience in infection control in an acute care setting/ teaching hospital or related facility as on senior position Must have working relevant work experience
  • PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
    Must be registered nurse and midwife from country of origin. Must be bachelor's degree in Nursing is preferred. Current Certification in basic cardiac life support (BLS). Must be a holder valid nursing Council ID. Must have completed a special course /work in epidemiology .Infection Control, related area of expertise

JOB SUMMARY:

The chief of infection control is responsible for the planning and implementation of organization wide strategies and processes to support a coordinated and effective approach to the management of infection control system which directly impact clinical care of patient and contribute to the provision of a safe environment for patient, visitors and health care workers. Collaborate with the facility leadership and the medical director to develop, implement, and evaluate the annual infection prevention goals and action plan.

  • Ensure compliance with infection control policies in all hospital departments through observational audits, structured education and effective communication
  • Reviews active and passive surveillance data to monitor infection rates in all settings and records data in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Investigates outbreaks and advices on corrective action with follow up to ensure that the incident or outbreak is effectively resolved and appropriately reviewed to minimize the opportunity for recurrence.
  • Completes regular audits related to infection control practices and presents findings in formal reports to senior management and Quality Assurance Dept. with comprehensive analysis and statistical accuracy.
  • Development of process of managing an influx of patients with contagious diseases in a systematic and feasible manner.
  • Prepares a financial budget for the infection control department to ensure appropriate allocation of resources as per organizational need.
  • Reviews and facilitates appropriate selection and usage of products related to cleaning antisepsis, disinfection and sterilization in a cost -effective manner without compromising infection control goals.
  • Provide recommendations to administration / Top Management regarding procurement of medical devices and equipment with regard to infection control.
  • Manages available resources to provide safe and effective patient care demonstrating/documenting implementation of all quality standards.
  • Coordinates accurate complication of surveillance data and record keeping activities and communicates information to national task forces.
  • Ensures all standard operating procedures and process flows are reviewed regularly to include updates and revisions, as per need of the organization.
  • Coordinates with managerial staff of all hospital departments to ensure effective communication and timely implementation of infection control policies and procedures across the hospital.
  • Prepare and monitor an infection control educational curriculum followed by competency assessment of all hospital staff directly involved in patient care.
  • Monitoring data, and preparing related reports with required recommendations; provide same to the hospital leadership ona quarterly basis.
  • Be a member of related Hospital Committees as assigned by the Hospital Management.
  • Work for improving the Dept. System/processes and be a part if the Hospital Internal and External Audit as per the hospital policy.
  • Performs risk assessment of all hospital areas to prioritize needs and develop a functional strategic plan for infection control department.
  • Instigates and support research and development to advance patient care and service development.
  • Participates in decision making when changes to the physical environment and/or the future provision of patient services are being planned.
  • Attends senior nursing staff forums and meeting to facilitate communication amongst peers and enhance professional development.
